Social Security Letter - apostilled
4. If you are applying for a retirement visa, you will need your Social Security letter.
The minimum monthly income is $800 for a single person, $900 for a couple, Spousal Social Security income does not count in the minimum for a couple. What that means is the Social Security income for the primary earner must be $900. The only acceptable income sources are Social Security or a pension plan. Rental or investment income, even with bank statements is NOT acceptable. If you have an adult dependent who is on SSI, their income can be included.
There are some obsolete document lists that state the Social Security income letter must be certified by an Ecuadorian Consulate. That was true until June of 2012, but is no longer required.
