====== Visas ====== **Visa question om 12-IX for 180 days** Q - My wife and I are visiting for the remainder of our 90 visa. Our plan was to go back, and apply there at an Ecuadorian Consulate, for a 6-month visa, so we can come back for an extended period of time. Can we do that? Or, would it be better to apply for the 6-month visa while we are here. And, if we did, would the "clock start ticking," using up our 6-month window? A - We recommend that, if you are returning to the United States, it's better if you apply there for the 12-IX visa for 180 days. Because, if you apply in Ecuador, the time of residence starts running as soon as the visa is granted - even the time you will be out of the country. If you apply for and receive the visa in your country the time begins to run upon entering Ecuador . This answer was provided to GringoPost by the Cuenca Immigration office.
